Dr. Arafat is recognized as one of the leading ophthalmologists in Palestine, holding the British Fellowship in Ophthalmology alongside the Jordanian Board certification. He has held numerous academic and leadership positions, including Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Science and Technology, and is currently one of the founders of Al-Noor Center for Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery. He is a member of the Palestinian Medical Council. Together with his colleagues at Al-Noor Center, he helped introduce Femto SMILE technology, making the center the first in Palestine to offer this advanced technique, in line with the latest global developments in vision correction. Dr. Arafat has had a distinguished academic and professional career, with research published in prestigious international journals focusing on laser treatment for eye diseases and the effectiveness of modern therapies, such as cyclosporine for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. He has also contributed to the development of ophthalmic surgical instruments using local resources. Among his major achievements are the introduction of advanced techniques such as lens implantation and corneal transplantation in hospitals in Nablus, and the establishment of the first cornea donation program in Palestine, restoring vision for dozens of patients. He also played a pioneering role in introducing laser treatment services for diabetic patients in specialized clinics across the region.
